Psychotherapy

My name is Denise Walusimbi, and I am a Registered Social Worker. I hold a Master of Social Work degree, along with a Bachelor of Social Work and a Social Service Worker diploma.

I provide counselling in a supportive and collaborative way, and I aim to create a space where you feel heard, respected, and understood. In my work, I support individuals who may be navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, or emotional and relationship challenges.

I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches, including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Narrative Therapy. My approach is trauma-informed, client-centered, and culturally responsive, meaning I will work with you at your pace, in a way that feels safe and meaningful for you.

I provide individual psychotherapy for youth 16+ and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, life transitions, stress, identity concerns, and other emotional challenges.

Our work is collaborative and conversational. Together, we will explore what is happening in your life, determine what you would like to change, and develop goals that feel meaningful and realistic for you. Therapy may include exploring difficult thoughts and emotions, understanding patterns in relationships and experiences, developing practical coping and emotional regulation skills, and finding new ways of responding to what you are going through.

My approach is trauma informed, culturally responsive, and grounded in evidence based psychotherapy. I draw from approaches including Emotion Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems informed practice, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, DBT, and other interventions based on your individual needs.
